Biography
The Neapolitan sculptor Girolamo Santacroce is mentioned in a letter from Pietro Summonte to Marcantonio Michiel of 20 March 1524, describing him as a promising young sculptor aged about twenty-two, trained as a goldsmith, working in marble, and author of a marble figure of Apollo and a medal of Jacopo Sannazaro.[1] He was a pupil of the Spanish sculptors Bartolomé Ordóñez (c. 1485-1520)and Diego Silóee (c. 1490-1563). During his short career, he executed sculptural altarpieces and funerary monuments for important Neapolitan churches.
