Biography
J. G. Tanner is identified by the inscription on the National Gallery's painting Engagement Between the "Monitor" and "Merrimac" (1953.5.36). No biographical information or additional works by J. G. Tanner have been found, but it is known that the painting is based on a color lithograph issued in 1891. Tanner was active, therefore, in that year or later. Formed in 2009, the Archive Team (not to be confused with the archive.org Archive-It Team) is a rogue archivist collective dedicated to saving copies of rapidly dying or deleted websites for the sake of history and digital heritage. The group is 100% composed of volunteers and interested parties, and has expanded into a large amount of related projects for saving online and digital history.
