Biography

The Rosenberg firm was established in Paris in 1878. In 1906 Paul Rosenberg [1881-1959] assumed the directorship of the gallery upon the death of his father. The gallery saw period of rapid growth over next several years. In c. 1912 the Rosenberg gallery began to sponsor abstractionists, including Picasso, Braque, Leger, Masson and Marie Laurencin. In 1941 the New York branch of the gallery opened at 20 East 79th Street. Paul Rosenberg died in Paris at the age seventy-eight.
